The Story

Welcome to Story Pieces!

My name is Debbie Miller. In 2024, after 24 years of an office job and commute, I now surround myself 24/7 with paint, children’s books, scissors, an Exacto knife and Mod Podge.

The idea for Story Pieces originated about twenty years ago when my oldest daughter was small. She decided one day to tear into pieces pages from many of her books. After the shock and a few tears, I decided to take the torn pieces and decoupage them onto a dresser, table and bookshelf (she got her little hands on a lot of books)!

Fast forward to September of 2024 when I had the opportunity to quit my job. When people asked what I was going to do, I answered, “follow creative pursuits, take walks and spend time with my family.” One of the creative pursuits ended up being Story Pieces. I scour thrift shops, Ebay and my town’s Everything is Free list to find all things made of wood. I transform these reclaimed pieces into, usable art. I visit library sales, Little Free Libraries, second-hand bookstores and ThriftBooks.com to find the perfect children’s books to create these one-of-a-kind items.

I now have a deep appreciation for the many wonderful authors and illustrators whose books I have used. It started with the familiar: the “classic” books I loved reading to my kids. It has expanded to new to me and now loved “newer” children’s books.

Please visit my shop to find the perfect piece or favorite story. Not finding what you need? I would love to discuss a custom order. Maybe you have a favorite book or author that you don’t see for sale. Maybe you have an old furniture piece at home that needs new life. Maybe I can search for the perfect furniture piece for you. I’d love to explore the possibilities with you.
